… when all parties are happy about the successful closure after a notarization, for example, for a real estate or commercial transaction. As notaries we are a vital part in ensuring the permanence and legal clarity of these transactions.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Lang

First steps:

After completing his law degree in 1983, Thomas Lang was admitted as an attorney to Landgericht Stuttgart (Stuttgart District Court). In 1987, he earned his PhD at the University of Tübingen, writing on a contractual law matter. From 1994 onwards, Thomas Lang also served as director of a state housing industry association until he was appointed as a lawyer-notary in Stuttgart in 1999.

Joining a commercial law firm:

Starting in 2003, he practiced as an attorney and notary in his fields of expertise as a partner in the commercial law companies GSK Stockmann (until 2011) and Menold Bezler (2012 till 2020), which were active on national and international levels. Thomas Lang was appointed an honorary professor at the University of Nürtingen-Geislingen in 2011, where he has lectured since the year 2000. Thomas Lang was a member of the Board of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Notaries from 2017 to 2021 (Vice President) and for many years an examiner at the Examination Office for the Notarial Specialized Examination at the Federal Chamber of Notaries for prospective lawyer-notaries. His professional and academic specialties are real estate law, corporate law, transaction law, and inheritance law. He has also published numerous articles in professional journals.

Establishing the notary partnership:

On 1st July 2020 Thomas Lang established together with Stephanie Soergel a notary partnership in Stuttgart. The two founders also bring in their extensive ex-notarial experience for the benefit of their clients.

Dr. Stephanie Soergel, née Fay

First steps:

Stephanie Soergel studied at the University of Freiburg, at Trinity College in Dublin, and at the University of Konstanz (Constance). She passed the first state legal examination in 2012 and then served her legal clerkship in Munich and New York City. After her legal clerkship, she worked as a research assistant in the Institute for International Law at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. After passing the second state legal examination in 2014, she earned her PhD writing on a comparative law topic in competition law. Stephanie Soergel is a certified business mediator (cvm).

Commercial law firms and further career experience:

Before Stephanie Soergel was appointed a notarial assessor in 2018, she worked as an attorney in an international commercial law firm and as a magistrate for the State of Baden-Württemberg. From 2019 on, she worked as a notary administrator in Stuttgart, until she was appointed as a notary in 2020. She specializes in real estate and corporate law.
